Giovanni Spano is the reason we watch The X Factor after his ballsy and fearless ‘…Baby One More Time’
After the nation said ‘so long farewell’ to Liverpool’s LMA choir last night on The X Factor The Result, let’s remind ourselves of the real star of the show – Giovanni Spano, who covered Britney’s schoolgirl classic ‘…Baby One More Time‘ as his guilty pleasure, and boy did it pay off (especially with the scream to finish)!
The 33-year-old rocked the stage and it was DEFINITELY one of his “moments”, as Simon Cowell likes to call it, this year.
Even before making the finals, Gio knew how to perform, it’s in his blood, and after the show he put on, it’s guaranteed that everyone will be wanting some more of Gio.
Last week marked the 20 year anniversary of Britney Spears releasing the anthem, so it was a given that one of the contestants would pick the ‘best selling song of 1999’. We are over the moon that it was him who had this great pleasure.
After his performance on Saturday night, he tweeted:
“Lost for words from your reaction online & messages. What a show @TheXFactor. I hope you enjoyed my take on a pop anthem? #TrulyGuilty. Once again I would love to continue this journey.”
It seems soooo long ago since Gio was standing on ‘the X’, ready to audition with ‘Gimme Some Lovin‘, which backfired, and luckily he was given a second chance to stun the judges with the Goo Goo Dolls’ Iris (thank God). The West End, Rock ‘n’ Roll performer hasn’t dared to let us down since, taking great songs in his stride and breathing new life into them.
