Have our 'back in the day' favourites been forgotten?

Updated: Jan 16, 2019

Reality stars of Geordie Shore, Ex On The Beach, or even Love Island seem to make a huge impact on social media these days. So what about the ones that got away?

There is always a place in our hearts for our day ones, our favourite singers who we had on repeat 24/7 – the time when fandoms weren’t exclusive and cliquey, a place to fangirl and support online.

When you see the typical “Where Are They Now?” stories on your feeds, you know who they’re going to bring up, and you know how they started: The X Factor. You think about Cher Lloyd, Diana Vickers, JLS, Eoghan, Matt Cardle, Alexandra Burke, Laura White (somehow she always comes to mind). But what about those who didn’t make their image through the power of Simon, Sharon, Louis and Cheryl, or Gary, Nicole – you get the picture? So, where are they now?

Taio Cruz

Well, it looks like he is still pursuing his music career. The ‘Break Your Heart’ and ‘Dynamite’ record artist is also a producer and writer as he wrote J-Lo’s I’m Into You and David Guetta and Usher’s banger, Without You. I first saw him chilling with a drink on a yacht in his music video Break Your Heart, teasing the ladies, and knew that Taio had style and something for the charts. For now, Taio looks as if he is boosting his image on social media.

Owl City

“Adam Young described the song as “a little song about bugs and not being able to fall asleep at night.” aka Fireflies was on everyone’s Samsung mobile thanks to Bluetooth, when it was released in 2009, and three years later they had the poppy collab with Carly Rae Jepson “Good Time”, that was played at every summer party, I can remember. Now, Owl City, the American electronica music group is on tour with their new 18-song album Cinematic.

Iyaz

Shawty’s like a melody in my head…. still on replay, Iyaz? Or, Keidran Jones, born in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. The singer/ songwriter, and the entrepreneur according to our BFF Wiki, was best known for his hits Solo, Pretty Girls, and of course Replay, awarded the ‘Best Reggae Video’ by the MTV Video Music Awards (Japan) in 2009.

For now, Iyaz is just chilling.

Mike Posner

The heartthrob of 2009, chasing that girl who couldn’t even remember his name. We’ve got your back, hun.

From working on some tracks with Big Sean, his ‘hometown friend’! Kept that quiet… Posner produced and featured on Big Sean’s first mix on, “Smoke & Drive” and from then on the rest is history. Cooler Than Me, Please Don’t Go, and of course, I Took a Pill in Ibiza, and along the way, before his latter hit popped up in the charts, the artist began working on his second album. You may be thinking, ‘wait, I didn’t know he had another album’. The reason for that is that around the time of writing the ‘unheard of’ album, Posner began to feel the pressure of being in the spotlight, with struggling his battle of depression, this resulted in a break from producing his own music and using his talent elsewhere – writing songs for other artists.

LMFAO

And, the OTT leopard print, the huge glasses, the afro, the ‘WIGGLE WIGGLE WIGGLE WIGGLE, Yeah’s. What a blast from the past. LMFAO (no need to explain here) had everyone dancing to the uncle and nephew’s Sorry For Party Rocking, Party Rock Anthem and Sexy and I Know It. But, before all that, they featured in Guetta’s Gettin’ Over You in 2010.
